Souper Bowl of Caring

Dear 4E Youth:

I would like to invite you to a short meeting directly after Divine Liturgy, and before Sunday school on January 24th to organize this years' Souper Bowl of Caring which is on February 7th. The Souper Bowl of Caring raises millions of dollars each year to feed the hungry.

We will plan to collect donations in Soup Pots on January 31st, and February 7th. These donation can go directly to a local charity of our choice. In addition, we will place plastic bins inside the church and ask members to drop in non-perishable food items. I will be asking for a TEEN volunteer to research local charities and submit a list for the rest of the Youth to vote on. In addition I will ask for a TEEN volunteer to "get the word out" about the Maryland Food Pantry's website and to set up this year's virtual food drive campaign. Through donations to them you can see their virtual pantries being filled up with your generous giving.

TEENS can work together and have information placed on our website . I will ask the younger kids to decorate the soup pots and food bins, and take up the collections on the two consecutive Sunday's.

Finally, there is a SERVICE BLITZ component to the Souper Bowl of Caring. This teams youth up with other youth in the area on a service project. I will ask a TEEN to research the Souper Bowl of Caring website for other churches in our area doing a Service Blitz with the intention of coordinating effort with another organization if possible.  I encourage all Youth to get permission from their parents, and check out this website!

How does the Souper Bowl of Caring work?
How the Souper Bowl of Caring Works
As background, Four Evangelists has been participating in the Souper Bowl for the past three years.  Each year we register a target amount of donations that we would like to meet (This year it is $500.00) and a target amount of food items that we would like to collect and donate ($500.00).

We collect monetary donations for two consecutive Sunday's, and donate part to IOCC and a portion to a local charity.    We also collect food items and distribute them to local food banks, or last year, we did a virtual food drive through the Maryland Food Bank.

4E Youth are being encouraged this year to participate more fully in this event.  For their service project they may offer to support/run the relief station that Deacon Charles has put forth in his last email.  Photos/videos of these efforts can be submitted to the Souper Bowl of Caring web site.

In addition I will be asking volunteers to bring in plastic bins.  These bins will serve as a food drop off between next Sunday and the last Sunday of Souper Bowl.

I will ask an older youth to send out an email instructing folks on how to do the virtual donations to the Maryland Food Bank.

Another volunteer will be requested to take up the 2-consecutive week monetary donation.
